The Cathedral is an enthusiastic proponent of education dating back to medieval times as a centre of learning. With over 18,000 children, young people and adults learning here every year, the Cathedral is committed to continuing to deliver innovative learning programmes that are accessible to all. But it cannot do this without support. The Education Trust launched a Patrons of Learning programme, along with primary and secondary Patron Schools programmes, through which individuals and schools can help continue high quality and innovative learning at the Cathedral. They play a vital role in enabling the life and work of our glorious building to flourish and thrive as it has done for nearly 1000 years. Since 1999 members have donated over £1,000,000 to support initiatives and projects that enrich and enhance the work of the Cathedral. Many of these can been seen in the Cathedral today.
